This one-of-a-kind neckpiece explores the relationship between precious and humble materials, challenging the way we assign value. It is a piece about juxtaposition—where a common stone collected from nature is elevated alongside precious metals and carefully engineered materials, demonstrating that beauty is found not in rarity alone, but in thoughtful design and craftsmanship.

The necklace features a custom-built 21-inch chain fabricated from Argentium® Sterling Silver roll chain, Argentium jump rings, anodized niobium jump rings, and anodized aluminum links in sea foam green, blue, pink, and red. The varied metals and colors create a lively transition to the pendant while echoing the vibrant palette found throughout the piece.

The pendant is constructed from two square titanium panels separated by handcrafted silver spacers and rivets, creating a floating, layered composition with depth and shadow. The rear panel is anodized a rich green, while the front panel is made from Krystal Titanium© that has been color-layered and anodized with flowing yellow and pink streaks reminiscent of reeds swaying in the wind. Beneath these flowing forms lies a remarkable field of purple, pink, and blue crystalline specks—the natural crystal structure within the titanium itself, revealed through the anodizing process.

Centered in the geometric titanium forms is a black feldspar cabochon that I personally collected from a nearby creek. The stone’s naturally textured surface resembles druzy, and is entirely natural and unaltered. Rather than polishing away its rugged character, I simply shaped the girdle so it could be securely bezel set, preserving the surface exactly as nature created it.

Passing through the feldspar is an Argentium® Sterling Silver tube setting holding a faceted Rhodolite garnet. The vivid gemstone introduces a brilliant focal point while reinforcing the central theme of the piece—the coexistence of the ordinary and the precious.

The contrast of geometric titanium, naturally textured feldspar, vibrant anodized metals, and the rich crimson garnet creates a composition that is both contemporary and deeply connected to the natural world. This neckpiece serves as a reminder that materials need not be traditionally valuable to possess beauty or meaning. In the hands of an artist, even the most humble elements can become extraordinary.
